POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Provides specialized accounting expertise, support and service as assigned in the accounting activities related to financial reporting, budgets, reporting procedures, tax and operations.
  • Develops and refines techniques that support accounting standards, controls and measurements for management’s use.
  • Collects and compiles data and presents oral and written reports to support development, implementation or evaluation of accounting-related programs and services.
  • Develops and carries out special studies, as assigned.
  • Maintains and improves technical competence in accounting or specialized field such as Statutory and GAAP accounting.
  • Assists with the development, implementation and training on new or modified workflow.
  • Prepares and/or performs user test plans related to financial system projects.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills are required to research, develop and evaluate accounting programs or services. Must be able to collect data through interviews and interaction with line employees.  Proven ability to translate complex accounting process into succinct and meaningful information for operating management.
  • Comprehensive skills in discerning and abstracting data from information systems.  Should have the capacity to coordinate activities with other divisions and departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting field preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Graduate training in an accounting related discipline is desirable. 
  • Work begun or completed for CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
  • At least 5-years of progressive accounting experience in a large corporation with exposure to multiple aspects of the Controller’s function.
  • Specialized training may be required for certain assignments eg. Taxation.
  • Experience in accounting or financial related work, management consulting and/or staff or management work within the company is desirable.
  • Thorough knowledge of insurance practices and principles to solve problems. 
  • Strong written and verbal skills are necessary. 
  • Strong supervisory skills required for some assignments.
  • FLMI, CPA and/or CMA desirable. 
  • Makes decisions where only general procedures are available and which require constant application of judgment and independent action.
