POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Monthly/quarterly General Ledger Account Reconciliations

    • Prepare reconciliations, age component items and conduct follow-up for timely clearance of outstanding reconciling items with applicable departments.
    • Comply with new corporate requirements and guidelines of account reconciliations and support all on-going testing requests from External Auditors, Internal Audit Department, and DBG/Head Office’s Quality Control team.
  • General ledger Maintenance, including journal preparation & posting

    • Prepare/post journal entries and maintain general ledger which includes quarterly currency conversion process in ledger system ensuring Corporate policies and standards are met.
  • Quarterly/Annual Statutory Statements & SI Schedules Preparation

    • Compile and provide assistance with the quarterly/annual statutory statement to OSFI and SI schedule(s) for internal reporting to Head Office.
  • Year-end Support

    • Prepare detailed working papers and supporting schedules assigned for statutory annual statement filing to OSFI.
  • Other

    • Attend to regular and ad-hoc requests from Head Office/DBG on different remediation and improvement initiatives - information & document retrieval and system testing.
    • Provide support to Senior Accountant in addressing internal and external audit queries.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 4 years of P&C insurance financial reporting and account reconciliation experience.

  • Proficient working knowledge of P&C-1 & P&C-2 reporting to Canadian insurance regulators preferred.

  • Enrolment in professional accounting designation program (intermediate level) or other equivalent academic background/training.

  • Excellent PC spreadsheet skills (Excel) and familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Word.

  • Strong communication skills (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with other team members and different departments.

  • Strong analytical, planning and organization skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently, perform well under pressure and to regularly meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Demonstrates initiative, dependability and accountability for high quality results.

  • Quick to learn and adapt.
