POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Lead the IFRS conversion process by providing IFRS technical accounting expertise. Complete the tasks required by the IFRS Conversion Project Plan to ensure deadlines are met.
  Design and maintain the IFRS issues and Assignment Tracking Tool to ensure deadlines are met.

• Monitor and summarize the implementation progress including assisting in the preparation of regular communications to senior management and the Audit Committee.

•  In conjunction with other financial reporting team members, assist in the preparation of internal, external and regulatory reporting required under IFRS including first time adopter notes, IFRS/CGAAP reconciliations and semi-annual IFRS progress reports.

• Write training materials for new accounting standards, train and educate various finance team members.

• Assist in resolving complex accounting, reporting and audit issues in a timely manner and in compliance with corporate policies.

• Assist in quantifying and assessing the impact of IFRS and alternative policies on the transition financial statements and internal controls.

• Design and document new accounting policies and procedures manual for compliance with IFRS

REQUIREMENTS

• Accounting designation required (CA, CMA,CGA);  University Degree in Accounting or Finance

• 5+ years post-qualification accounting experience, ideally in financial statement preparation of CGA/CMA

•   Industry or public accounting experience in IFRS

•  Strong technical skills and research ability

•  Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP

• Strong Project management experience

• Strong communication and presentation skill

• Ability to work independently within a team environment

•  Ability to write accounting policies and training materials

•  Insurance industry experience would be an asset

•  Advance skill in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
