POSITION DESCRIPTION

• Handle complex Environmental Claims

• Prepare timely coverage assessments and prepare positional/reservation of rights and denial letters

• Review and implement reserves

• Monitor external counsel with respect to coverage, subrogation and litigation and ensuring litigation guidelines are complied with

• Respond to calls from brokers and insureds regarding claims files in a professional manner

• Attend settlement meetings and mediations

• Stay abreast of legal developments which affect the insurance industry in general as well as those which are specific to Environmental claims

• Conform to company procedures and Head office reporting

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 7-10 years experience handling Environmental Claims

• Good working knowledge of environmental concepts, remediation techniques, and the regulations that govern these claims

• Well versed in investigation and assessment of Environmental Losses

• Work independently with minimal supervision

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

• Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast paced team environment

• Ability to manage work load effectively, especially during times of high activity

• Confident knowledge of systems and PC applications (Windows, MSWord, and Excel)
